Our
Story
The
Past
Until January 2004, the
hot lunch program at St. Mary School was run by the Parent Teacher
Council and the Athletic Booster Club. Each week, on Thursdays, a “hot
lunch” was ordered and brought in from various fast food restaurants in
the area, or hot dogs were cooked in Burnett Hall and wheeled over to
the school to be served to the children by parent volunteers. Although
this wasn’t a bad start, everyone wanted something more. Unfortunately
our school did not have the facilities to offer anything else.
Thankfully, once Phase I of the beautiful new addition to our school was
complete, with it’s awesome new kitchen, and spacious dining area in the
new Franciscan Room, this dream was now a possibility.
After many discussions
between the Principal, Judy Rozgo, the Business Manager, Paul Bulow, the
PTC President, Michele Kash, and school parents, Hayel and Jan Sweis
(who were also previous restaurant owners), the new hot lunch program
came to fruition.
In January 2004, our new
bigger, better, daily hot lunch program was launched using parent
volunteers as food preparers and servers under the supervision of Hayel
and Jan Sweis.

The
Present
The Sweis family formed
the Hot Meals, Inc. Company. They worked hard to make sure the students
and staff of our school are provided with a well-balanced, nutritious,
and high quality lunch five days a week. Through the St. Mary School PTC,
parent and grandparent volunteers are organized and scheduled to prep,
serve, and clean-up in two shifts on each hot lunch day. These
volunteers are vital to the success of the hot lunch program at our
school. Without them, there would not be a hot lunch program at St. Mary
School.

The Future
Hot Meals Inc. is always
open to suggestions and ideas from the parents, children, and staff of
our school in regards to the menu or any facet of the hot lunch program.
They welcome parents to stop in and “check out” our hot lunch program
anytime. They are all so proud of what we have worked together to
accomplish.
